Barber Tools

Did you know that Barbers were also known as surgeons?

"The barber surgeons were the first healthcare professionals who focused on the health of soldiers during times of both peace and war. They were able to treat wounds, conduct minor and even major surgeries and perform amputations"

The Barber Pole

"The look of the traditional barber pole is linked to bloodletting, with red representing blood and white representing the bandages used to stem the bleeding. The pole itself is said to symbolize the stick that a patient squeezed to make the veins in his arm stand out more prominently for the procedure, and the bottom and top parts of the pole represent the silver dishes that were used to contain the blood leeched from the vein. The Modern barber pole that we see now has blue added to represent the color of the vein.
